Meet Mike Tarselli, a distinguished Quantic alumnus and a healthcare specialist leader at Amazon Web Services (AWS). Mike’s career journey is a remarkable example of adaptability and strategic growth, navigating from an initial ambition in medicine to leading roles in tech, all while maintaining a focus on advancing healthcare through technology.

From Medicine to Medicinal Chemistry

Mike’s career began with a strong desire to enter the medical field. However, he soon realized that his aversion to blood would be a significant obstacle. This pivotal moment led him to pursue a career in medicinal chemistry instead. His passion for helping scientists accelerate their work using technology became the driving force behind his transition into executive roles at large tech companies.

Reflecting on this career shift, Mike shares, “Understanding my limitations early on allowed me to pivot towards a path where I could still make a significant impact in healthcare, but through a different lens—technology and data.”

Embracing Leadership Amid the Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic was a transformative period for many professionals, and Mike was no exception. His managerial responsibilities at AWS grew substantially, prompting him to seek rapid upskilling in areas crucial for effective leadership. This need led him to pursue an Executive MBA at Quantic School of Business and Technology.

“The Quantic EMBA program provided me with essential skills in finance, business strategy, and negotiation. These have become foundational in my leadership role, especially during such unprecedented times,” Mike notes.

Bridging Technology and Healthcare

At AWS, Mike leverages his unique blend of technical and business acumen to support biopharma and healthcare companies in optimizing their data systems. His work focuses on streamlining these systems to accelerate therapeutic delivery, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes.

Mike’s vision for the next three years is clear: to expand his team and further assist healthcare companies in harnessing technology to drive efficiency and innovation. “Our goal is to help these companies not only manage their data more effectively but also use it to speed up the development and delivery of new therapies,” he explains.

The Quantic Advantage

Mike’s decision to enroll in the Quantic EMBA program was driven by the immediate need to enhance his managerial skills. The program’s focus on practical, real-world applications of business concepts has had a significant impact on his career.

“During the pandemic, taking on more managerial responsibilities highlighted the gaps in my knowledge. Quantic’s curriculum, particularly in negotiation, strategy, and accounting, has been instrumental in bridging those gaps,” Mike reflects.

Looking Ahead

Mike Tarselli’s journey is a testament to the power of adaptability, continuous learning, and strategic application of knowledge. As he looks to the future, his commitment to leveraging technology to advance healthcare remains unwavering. He aims to remain at the forefront of this intersection, using his expertise to drive meaningful change and improve therapeutic outcomes.

In his own words, “True innovation in healthcare occurs when we can tailor technological solutions to meet the specific needs of the industry. Success is measured by the tangible impact these solutions have on patient care and organizational efficiency.”
