Quantic Alumnus Andrew Chan: Pioneering the Future of Electric Vehicles and Green Technology

Andrew Chan’s journey from a childhood fascination with cars to becoming a pivotal figure in the electric vehicle (EV) industry is a testament to his passion, innovation, and commitment to environmental sustainability. As a Quantic Executive MBA alumnus, Andrew has effectively merged his engineering expertise with advanced business acumen, enabling him to navigate and shape the rapidly evolving EV landscape. From his impactful roles at BMW Hong Kong, Tesla, and Vinfast, to his aspirations for a greener future, Andrew’s story is one of transformation, dedication, and forward-thinking.

From Passion to Profession: Andrew’s Early Career

Andrew Chan’s career began with a solid foundation in engineering, where he cultivated his technical skills and deepened his understanding of automotive technologies. His early career saw him join BMW Hong Kong, where he played a crucial role in the rollout of the BMWi series, focusing on developing EV charging infrastructure. This experience honed his technical skills and ignited his passion for electric vehicles and sustainable transportation.

His move to Tesla marked a significant turning point. At Tesla, Andrew was instrumental in regional and global charging infrastructure development, working to create a robust and reliable network for EV users. Tesla’s emphasis on First Principles Thinking—a problem-solving approach that involves breaking down complex problems into their most basic elements—resonated with Andrew and became a cornerstone of his professional philosophy. “First Principles Thinking has enabled me to develop innovative solutions and convert many skeptics into EV believers,” Andrew notes.

Innovating for a Sustainable Future

Andrew’s work at Tesla and BMW has significantly contributed to the advancement and acceptance of electric vehicles. His dedication to creating a reliable EV charging network has been pivotal in fostering consumer confidence and promoting the widespread adoption of electric vehicles. According to a report by the International Energy Agency, the global EV stock surpassed 10 million in 2020, highlighting the growing shift towards sustainable transportation.

Driven by a commitment to environmental impact, Andrew aims to expand his contributions to green technology projects. He envisions developing a wider variety of projects that support carbon neutrality, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change. “My goal is to contribute to a greener future by developing innovative green technologies that can help achieve carbon neutrality,” Andrew shares.

Enhancing Business Acumen with Quantic

In pursuit of furthering his professional capabilities, Andrew chose to enroll in the Quantic Executive MBA program. The program’s flexible structure allowed him to balance his demanding career while enhancing his business knowledge. The Executive MBA provided Andrew with crucial skills in strategic thinking, leadership, and effective communication with C-level executives and startup founders.

Embracing Personal Growth and Global Experiences

Beyond his professional endeavors, Andrew is dedicated to personal growth and exploring new experiences. He discovered a passion for snowboarding during a trip to Hokkaido, Japan, which reflects his adventurous spirit and love for outdoor activities. This passion for new experiences extends to his professional aspirations as well. Andrew hopes to live and work in different countries over the next five years, continuing to grow both personally and professionally.

“Living and working in different countries will allow me to gain diverse perspectives and adapt to various cultural and business environments,” Andrew explains. This ambition underscores his commitment to continuous learning and adaptability, qualities that are essential in the ever-changing field of green technology.Andrew’s accomplishments and capabilities will no doubt continue to flourish.
